John 15: 1 -10 I love flying. It lets me taste that delicious fruit called freedom. You are not confined to roads nor are there speed limits. Many times I’ve felt, you can’t get more out of life than this? Wow! I sure love life. To really live, we must abide in Christ.
Most of you know that I love flying. Flying lets me taste that delicious fruit called freedom. You are not confined to roads nor are there speed limits. Many times I felt, you can’t get more out of life than this?
In our text Jesus is likely on the road to Gethsemane, into His last hours with his disciples. For three years they have been flying high. These twelve men took to Jesus like ducks take to water.
Stuffy religious form and liturgy went out the window and in came reality and life. Fancy duds were out and everyday clothes were in. The teacher looked the same as the one being taught.
The simple wisdom of Jesus was so profound that it stumped the Jews greatest theologians. The fresh winds of change, freedom and life were blowing and the disciples loved the action. I want to get everything out of life that God has for me.
You may be asking, “What has all this talk of flying and freedom got to do with John 15 and abiding in the vine?” Jesus never talked about aeroplanes and flying. Flying was as foreign to them as vineyards and pruning are to city people today. Let’s read Jesus’ plan for getting the most out of life. |
