Man made religious rules and regulations usually promote superficial spirituality which sabotages a significant relationship with Jesus. He becomes an academic conversation piece and not a friend who sticks closer than a brother. John 5:8-18 When was the last time that someone rained on your party? Maybe you landed this summer job that pays $10.00 per hour. You shared this good news with your friends and immediately some jerk bleats out, "Big deal, my summer job pays $15.00 per hour." Perhaps you had a dynamic encounter with God, old emotional scars were healed and you felt like a new free person. Your friends say, "God's not like that, get a grip on your emotions." A tanker of ice cold water is dumped on your spiritual party. In our Bible story, a man was healed from a condition that crippled him for 38 years. This called for a Thanksgiving celebration, but the religious establishment chose to rain on this man's party. |
